In a show of deep factionalism that has become the order of the day in Zanu PF, a students body aligned to the party, Zimbabwe Congress of Students Union (ZICOSU) launched a scathing attack on the Zanu-PF secretary for administration Didymus Mutasa accusing him of fanning division in the party and being a weevil.
Addressing a Press conference at the Media Centre on Friday, the National Treasurer Tonderai Chidawa of the pro-Zanu PF students’ body ZICOSU said they were warning the nation and Zanu-PF at large, that the party was under attack.
“Zanu–PF is now under attack due to the machinations of the overzealous, divisive and power hungry Didymus Mutasa who is campaigning to be the party’s national chairman trying to destroy a sacrosanct holy matrimony of the Unity Accord.
“In addition Cde Gamatox or Mutasa has done irreparable damage to Zanu-PF Manicaland Executive Council and we are demanding his apology to the president, the party and the nation at large”, said Chidawa.
Commenting on the issue of the Unity Accord, Zimbabwe African Peoples Union (ZAPU) vice-president Emilia Mukaratirwa said they were no longer party of the Unity Accord.
“We moved out of Unity Accord at a congress in 2010 so its no longer in existence and those who remained there is at their own accord”, said Mukaratirwa.
In addition Mukaratirwa highlighted that she was not sure of the chairmanship but however mentioned that the vice-president was the one set aside for ZAPU a candidate.
Factionalism in Zanu PF reached a boiling point at the recent youth congress with rival factions openly campaigning and de-campaigning each other much to the chagrin of President who openly denounced clandestine succession battles dogging his party.
