Flag controversy characterized the reception of the body of the late national hero Dumiso Dabengwa at Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International airport in Bulawayo yesterday when the casket bearing the late Dabengwa’s body touched down at the airport wrapped in the Zimbabwean flag.

Members of the Zimbabwe African Peoples’ Union (ZAPU) however objected to the casket being wrapped in the national flag, insisting that it must be wrapped in the ZAPU flag. A heated argument ensued until ZAPU members got their way. The casket ended up being wrapped in the ZAPU flag.
