Newly formed party to overthrow dictatorship and bring democracy

BY BYRON MUTINGWENDE
A newly formed political party – Zimbabwe People’s Front (ZPFP) has said it is committed to the country’s total transformation and the removal of the dictatorial ZANU PF-led government and its policies.

Speaking during the party’s launch event at the Quill Club in Harare on Thurdsay, ZPFP founding president Owen Kuchata said their mission was to create a healthy and conducive environment for all citizens.

“We want to bring total peace, unity, freedom and accountability and to make Zimbabwe the most developed country with the best economy in the global village through the creation of employment for our citizens,” Kuchata said.

He said his government would work to protect the individual rights of its citizens and provide public service to all as well as availing unity, justice, peace.

Kuchata took a dig at the ruling party for practicing autocracy in which the president had unrestrained power and urged leaders to subject themselves to constitutional limitations.
He added that government’s stance against those brave to freely express themselves is a practice not in sync with democracy.

“The right to free speech is the cornerstone on which democracy is built. Every person has the right to speak freely and to question the government’s decisions. Citizens in democratic countries must also have the chance to hear and judge themselves on what others say. This allows people to help shape the decisions and policies of their government.”

ZPFP said once in power, they would bring about political emancipation and liberate people from the bondage of unemployment, poverty and discrimination currently prevailing in the country. They also pledged to attract foreign direct investment through putting in place sound and viable economic policies.
